Top iPhone apps by country

“Clash Royale” launches with a near-global takeover in top territories, while the “Clash of Clans” follow-up was shadowed by minimalist puzzler “Stack” in many regions.

More details on these apps by country for the week, by number of download and recorded on March 8, 2016, can be found below.

Clash Royale (Games)

Supercell’s quasi-sequel to “Clash of Clans” makes a big splash as a card-based battler featuring characters from the first game. With a range of in-app purchases, including the top IAP of a $0.99 batch of virtual currency, it’s also the top grossing app in most territories where it’s become the top free iPhone download, with the original “Clash of Clans” not too far behind.

United Kingdom

Stack (Games)

Veteran studio Ketchapp, of “2048” and “Don’t Step on the White Tile” success, responds to the aesthetic of 2014 hit “Monument Valley” with this minimalist yet color-soaked puzzler. In it, players must perfectly stack flat blocks that slide in from either side of the screen.

GasBuddy (Travel)

This is a crowdsourced gas prices app in which updates are incentivized by the prospect of daily prizes — $100-worth of free gas. The app supplies pricing information for the US, Canada, and now Australia, where it launched this week. An ongoing global surplus of crude oil has led to the current trend of low gas prices affecting those in producing and consuming countries in often vastly different ways.
