The sixth annual Al Khor Fly-In @ Al Khor Airport
Under the patronage of Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), the Organising Committee of the Al Khor Fly-In has announced the schedule for its annual crowd-pulling attraction. The event will take place on Friday January 18th and Saturday January 19th 2013 at Al Khor Airport.
The Sixth Al Khor Fly-In – which has now become an annual event – will begin at 9am on both days, running until approximately 4.30pm. Aircraft owners from Qatar, the GCC and overseas will be flying into the airport on the Thursday to prepare their machines and perform a general ‘set up’ of the event.
The goal of the Fly-In is to raise awareness of aviation in a fun and educational way. It’s an opportunity for those with a love of aviation to engage themselves in a fantastic experience by taking a closer look at a diverse range of aircraft from jets, to propeller aircraft, to microlights and many others. For those unfamiliar with aviation, the learning curve will be steeper and even more enjoyable.
The event begins at 9am on Friday with a display of all the participating aircraft ‘parked up’ for visitors to photograph and have any questions answered by owners and experts. At the same time, there will be a demonstration of remote-control aircraft flying.
This will be followed by the ‘real thing’ as members of the Qatar Flying Club will give a demonstration of group flying. Public tours of the exhibits begin thereafter and, after a break for prayers and lunch, these will continue, before a second display of remote-control flying ‘formation’.
Next will be the Fly-In Organising Committee’s contribution to the event and this will be followed by a demonstration from Qatar Internal Security Forces. All the while, aircraft not in the air will remain available for the visitors’ perusal before the first day winds up at about 4.30pm.
The excitement continues on Saturday morning with a group flight of light aircraft at the Fly-In. The second day of the event will see visitor touring recommence, as well as further demonstrations of remote-control aircraft followed by the ‘Air Sports’ show from the Organising Committee and the Lakhwya Team show.
Numerous activities organised by the QCAA and the Scientific Club will run parallel to the above attractions in a public tent set specifically for the event, where younger visitors and families will enjoy a series of competitions and quizzes, with the chance to win some superb prizes.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of the Al Khor Fly-In Organising Committee, said: “The 2012 Fly-In was a huge success, combining fun for all the family with an educational experience. We’re delighted, then, to announce the schedule for the 2013 Fly-In, with the attractions this year bigger and better than ever before.
“As a result, we’re looking forward to welcoming a record number of visitors to this year’s event and providing a fun and family-friendly aviation experience. We can promise high octane thrills and spills for everyone and some truly remarkable sights to be seen by anyone with an interest in aviation.
