ABOUT GUY MANOUKIAN
Guy Manoukian is a passionate composer filled with musical talent… a talent that was fostered by his American and Armenian teachers who were his inspiration from the tender age of four. At the age of seven, guy won a Yamaha Pianica, and ever since Yamaha pianos have been his instrument of choice. In fact, he is the first artist from the Middle East to be endorsed by Yamaha.
Encouraged by his parents to persue an alternative career path at the same time as his music, Guy studied law but the turning point in his career came when he started fusing Arabic and Armenian tunes with modern
contemporary arrangements. He recorded “On Tour” with a diverse range of artists such as Wyclef Jean, 50 Cent and Mario Reyes from the Gypsy Kings and last summer had his first performance at the International Beiteddine Festival.
Guy has received many awards for his music, notably the Armenian Music Award that he received in Los Angeles for Best Dance Album, the Best Arabic Tune of the Year Award for Harem in Lebanon 2002 and the Best dance Album at the Arabia Music Awards in Dubai in 2003.
ABOUT MARIO REYES
He’s originally from Arles, in the South of France, but he feels as Spanish as his grandparents. Just like many of the Reyes, the huge Gypsy family from which his famous relatives, The Gipsy Kings, emerged. Mario Reyes was their lead guitarist for the Gipsy Kings on their 1995 world tour.
A man in charge of his own destiny, Mario Reyes started playing the guitar between the ages of seven and has mastered the art of this musical instrument. “The Gipsy Man,” as he is now known, recently collaborated with Andrea Bocelli on a song composed by Mario, called “Sin tu amor” and it is now one of the tracks on Bocelli’s album called “Andrea”.
Currently, Mario Reyes is celebrating the recent launch of his album “The Gipsy Man Sings From the Middle East,” in which he’s accompanied by great stars from that part of the world. A joint vision of Luis Medina and Albert Hagar, who wrote most of the songs, each track reflects a fusion of Arab and
Gypsy elements, not only in the language but also in the arrangements, quite representative of the Gypsy and Middle Eastern musical cultures, where it has attracted quite a following. It has duos with superstars of Arabic music, Carol Samaha and Ilham Al Madfai, as well as the promising new talents Qusai y Malika.
The best, then, is to unpack his guitar and play it, making people happy, see them laugh and dance at each show.
