A dream come true for all rock, metal and guitar fans alike!
Born in January 1955 in Hannover, West Germany, Michael is the younger brother of Rudolf Schenker, founding member of the Scorpions.
As a nine year old, Michael discovered Rudolf’s guitar. With no time to waste Michael learned everything available from the Shadows to the Beatles to the Stones and anything at all with lead guitar.
Between his 11th & 13th years Michael became a member of “The Enervates” and joined another band called “The Cry”.
Then at 14, Rudolf introduced him to a singer in their neighborhood, Klaus Meine. This was also the time Michael discovered how much fun playing loud distorted lead guitar was.
Michael and Klaus went straight into playing lots of gigs under the name of ‘Copernicus’ with a set list of songs from Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Rory Gallagher, Black Sabbath and other songs with lead guitar and great vocals.
Michael was 15 at the time he joined Scorpions as lead guitar along with Klaus Meine on vocals and recorded Scorpions debut album Lonesome Crow at age 17.
The Scorpions went on tour after, opening up for upcoming UK band UFO in Germany. Schenker was offered the position of lead guitar player for UFO and, with the blessing of his brother, accepted. Schenker co-wrote most of the songs on UFO’s major label (Chrysalis Records) debut album Phenomenon. Schenker finally left UFO soon after the last show of their US tour in October 1978, but rejoined UFO three times, producing an album each time: Walk on Water (1995), Covenant (2000) and Sharks (2002).
Schenker briefly re-joined the Scorpions in late 1978 and 1979, when they were recording the album Lovedrive (he plays lead guitar on three songs, “Another Piece Of Meat”, “Coast To Coast” and “Lovedrive”) and toured with the band in support of the album before starting his solo career by founding the Michael Schenker Group (MSG).
Since 1979, Michael Schenker has been very creative, recording an incredible number of albums with different musicians and singers (Gary Barden, Robin McAuley).
In 2011, Michael embarked on his Temple of Rock project. Released in 2011 and followed by a live album/DVD, Temple of Rock is a life-affirming body of work that also includes 2013’s Bridge the Gap and now Spirit on a Mission released in March 2015.
In 2015, he touring his Temple of Rock band in the US, Japan and Europe with the same Scorpions mates he made the Scorpions Lovedrive album with, Herman Rarebell (drums) and Francis Buchholz (bass), along with ex-Rainbow’s Doogie White (vocals) and Wayne Findlay (7 string guitar/keyboards).
Throughout the past 4 decades, no matter which band he was manning lead guitar for, Michael Schenker has continuously been renowned worldwide for his tenacious live performances and will rock out Byblos venue.
