WORLD FAIR TRADE DAY

Published on May 11, 2012 with No Comments

Fair Trade is an international movement that improves the lives of rural farmers and marginalized workers by selling and distributing their products while offering them fair wages.

Fair Trade Lebanon started in 2006 and since then has contributed to helping farmers, co-operatives and women in rural areas access markets while making a decent living. Today, Lebanese fair traded products are distributed all over the world. Moreover, the wine and olive oil has just been certified by Fairtrade International; the ethical label that guarantee the respect of Fairtrade standards at each step of the supply chain.

In 2012, Lebanon will be part of the World Fair Trade Day on May 12th. Thousands of people in more than 22 countries participate by holding breakfasts, lunches and gatherings with fairly traded products. Come to the Souks on May 12th and 13th to learn more about the movement and the co-operatives in Lebanon while enjoying a rich entertainment program of flashmobs and dance, circus performances, music, and of course food!
